The chorus students, together with band and orchestra, are in full swing with our annual music fundraiser. No matter what grade you’re in, the money we raise is going to significantly impact each and every ensemble directly, as we look to make some exciting purchases and participate in some great events this year! Please go to the Fundraiser page to view the letter we sent home (along with fundraising packets). This is where future posts, regarding important dates, top selling winners, and other pertinent information will be made. Each student has a personal goal of a minimum of TEN items for us to meet our goals.
Our fundraiser turn-in date is SEPTEMBER 29 and 30! That gives you a good chunk of time to sell at your parent’s work, with family friends and neighbors, at your church or synagogue, on weekends, and over Fall Break!
If you choose not to participate, please consider making a donation straight to Dickerson Chorus instead. With donations, 100% goes straight to DMS Choirs.
Now pull out those salesman or saleswoman skills and sell away!
After three full days of auditions, Ms. Jones and I were tasked with what ended up being an extremely difficult decision. There were so many excellent auditions and applications and candidates, and we wish everyone could go. That being said, we can only select nine students and two alternates. Congratulations to the 2015-2016 District Honor Chorus students! More details will be given to you soon regarding registration, dates, and music.

We are very excited to announce that the time for District Honor Chorus has arrived! It is an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students of musical talent and great example in the choral classroom to represent Dickerson for the entire county. As such, it is a privilege to be selected. Students interested in participating must complete the application form (click DHC Application to download; hard copies also provided in class) AND sign up for an audition slot. Please bring the form to the audition.
Auditions will be next Monday-Wednesday (8/31-9/2) before school. Please be here ready to start by 8:10 AM.
- My Country Tis of Thee (will learn/review in class this week)
- Three pitch recall examples (hear 3-4 notes on piano and sing them back on neutral syllable)
At the request of some 8th grade students, here is the score reading practice example we did in class on Wednesday. Remember that the format of the quiz tomorrow will be almost identical, so if you can identify each of the terms, symbols, and score parts on the song below, you will do great tomorrow!

All 7th and 8th grade students need the following starting MONDAY, AUGUST 10:
- Alfred’s Essentials of Music Theory Book (7th Grade-Book 1; 8th Grade-Book 2)
- 10-15 sheets of lined paper
Both items will be kept in class and needed every day.
